Cam Gorman does a double whammy and wins both the mile and 5K winter handicaps in one week

Cam Gorman improved his 5K time  by 1 minute and 32 seconds to win the 5K handicap on Thursday August 22nd. Ciara Sinclair wasn't far behind though, improving by a massive 1:23. Emma Kirkland and Jack Stockeld did very well in their first 5K handicaps. Sophie Gocher was fastest girl on the night in 19:37, and Liam, Amelia and Kieren Gorman all posted excellent times. I will not mention those who did not improve - conditions were tough though!  

Cam Gorman said, before he ran, 'if I win can I have a tiny Nationals top?' Well he did win and he got one - see the picture below. So, he can wear this to support his sister Amelia, who is going to the Australian Cross country championships, and advertise our wonderful club.

Cam also won the mile handicap on the Monday of the same week due to improving by 35 seconds to run 6:12.

Junior Striders at City to Surf August 11th 2013

Apologies to any Junior Striders we have missed here - our snap-happy President and his First Lady tried to get a pic. of everyone wearing a Striders running top. We know Dan Watts also ran, as did the whole family Jagger, but not in the green and white sadly. Tony was wearing a rather obscure, limited edition Striders top, so was not spotted on the move. As far as we know none of our girls braved the hilly 14km. It was a perfect day for the run and to meet the squillions of Striders who also ran at the meeting spot above the finish afterwards for cake, nuts and fruit.

NSW Short Course Cross Country Championships Rydlemere Sat. August 1st 2013

The start of the under 12s 1.5K race - we had 8 boys and 5 girls in this race!

 This was our final hurrah! The last team event on the ANSW calendar this winter for juniors. It was, as usual for this event, a lovely, sunny day. We were out in force for this. 

Our under 12 girls won BRONZE in the 1.5K: Nicola Hogg, Emily Gocher, Ciara Sinclair and Emma Kirkland, with Emma O'Reilly not far behind. Our under 12 boys A won GOLD:  Lachlan Francis, Daniel Cooper, Kieren Gorman and Tom Kirkland, and B won BRONZE: Benji Wilson, Jack Stockeld, Ewan Shingler and Cam Gorman.Lachlan Francis was under 12 state short course cross country champion! This race was very exciting, with Lachlan moving from 3rd to 1st in the last 200m.

Aren't they lovely? Left to right, the bronze medal winning under 12 girls: Emma Kirkland, Emily Gocher, Ciara Sinclair and Nicola Hogg.

Nicola Hogg and Emily Gocher quickly changed chips to run AGAIN in the under 14 girls 2.5K with their older sisters Olivia Hogg and Sophie Gocher to claim silver - so it was worth it! The under 14 boys: Tom Davies, Jack Unterweger, Corey Grace and Liam Gorman also won silver.

The under 16 boys won silver in their 2.5K, with Josh Phillips 3rd in NSW overall. The team included: Josh Phillips, Daniel Watts, Lachlan Cooper and Fraser McKinlay. We had an under 18 girls team with Amelia Gorman, then Jess Francis and Tessa Constantine from the under 16 girls and Olivia Hogg, aged 12, running for the second time to make up the team!

Josh Phillips is 3rd in the state, and he is 'at the young end of the 2 year age band'.

In the 5K Daniel Francken was first home of our under 18 boys, running on his 16th birthday (we had cake), followed by Adam Halmy, David Gardiner, Paul Loader and Gus Wong to win silver. Bethany Halmy ran 5K valiantly on her own in the under 20 girls.

Last but not least we had mums and dads running too! In the 5K your very own Caroline Yarnell was short course cross country champion in the 50 -55 age group. Fiona McKinlay and Katherine Hogg were part of the 35+ GOLD medal winning team, and Helen Ashworh (Tom and Emma Kirkland's mum) and Caroline Yarnell were part of the silver medal winning 45+ wome'ns team. In the 7.5K Tom Highnam and Andrew Wilson were part of the men's 35+ gold medal winning team. Our very own Tony Wong ran well as did Michael Halmy, but they were without a team sadly :(

NSW state road relay championships Sat. July 13th 2013

NSW Road Relays

It was a mixed day for us. Eight teams competed and there were three team medals. A number of teams were under strength due to people being away for the school holidays, soccer and snowboarding injuries! What can you do???

The under 12 boys A with Dan Cooper, Kieran Gorman, Jack Stockeld and Tom Kirkland were the stars of the day with their emphatic win in the 4x2k. This was especially welcome, after their very close second in Nowra.

Our under 16 boys: Josh Phillips, Harlan Mulherin and Lachlan Cooper. The 4th was under 12 Daniel Cooper - so not our strongest under 16 boys team, but good enough for fourth!!

 

 

 In the under 18 boys 4x4k, David Gardiner opened with a 12.43 first leg. There were solid runs from Adam Halmy and Paul Loader. Daniel Francken made up 200m and brought the team home in third with a blistering 12.40.

In the last race of the day the under 20 girls’ team of Bethany Halmy, Hannah Gibson, Jess Vernon and Amelia Gorman won silver in their 4x4k after an almighty tussle with Ryde Athletic Club, the eventual winner.
