The Manly Scenic Fun Run was held at 8:00am. on Sunday 20th May. The distances were VERY inaccurate, but officially there was a 2K, 5K and a 10K. This is the way of things with fun runs!

Amy Polikowski was first lady in the 2K, with Sophie Wickham 2nd - a reversal of last year's placings. Holly Wickham was 7th.

Gemma was 2nd 12-15 girl in the 5K. Young Samuel was held back by his dad we suspect - he is only 9, and was 6th under 12 boy.

We had some incredible individual results with Daniel Francken coming 2nd in the under 16 boys 5K, Edita 2nd in the under 12 girls 2.5K and Hannah Gibson 3rd in the under 18 girls 5k. We also had a lot in the top 5 or 10. In the teams we won 3 golds, 2 silvers and 3 bronze sets of team medals! Not a bad haul.

Race yourselves fit on Sunday afternoons in Pymble.

Maybe you can't always make it to training. Perhpas the West Met races are too far away? If you want some extra training, why not try these races on a Sunday afternoon, put on by Ku-ring-gai Little Athletics Centre. See http://www.klac.org.au/ and click on winter cross country down the side.

During the winter months, the Centre conducts a cross country competition at Bannockburn Oval, Bannockburn Road, Pymble. The course winds around the outskirts of the oval, and starts at 3:15pm each Sunday. The 2012 season will start on 6 May 2012 and continue until 5 August 2012. On the first day, athletes can register from 2:30pm and there will be a course orientation at 3:00pm allowing all runners and parents to walk the courses.

The 2011 season involved athletes from the Manly Warringah, Northern Suburbs, Ryde, North Rocks, Carlingford and Northern Districts Centres.

Season fees: Registered Little Athletes $10, and Unregistered children $55

Juniors training all over Sydney on Easter Monday

Cam holds the plank position for 13 mins.!
We had a great 2 hour training session for around 25 juniors and parents on Easter Monday at Passmore Reserve, Manly Vale. Congratulations to Cam Gorman on setting a Junior Striders plank record - 13 mins. Can any Senior Stiders beat that? He held perfect form!! See below.

Before the big race....

Janet Jagger put on a 6.7 mile race along the Nepean River at 11:00am. on Easter Monday too, and the times from that will be the basis for a handicap series. Paul Loader was fastest on the day - well done Paul (back row - far left and in photo below).

The Easter Bunny 1 mile handicap - Monday April 2nd 2012, Narabeen.

We had 20 who completed the race, and one DNF. Keiren Gorman was our winner, improving on his time by a whopping 21 seconds, so he went home with the large green egg and the trophy. Daniel Rasmussen, Tessa, Luke, Sophie Gocher and Cam also improved and won choccy prizes. It was impossible to decide who was best dressed, so it was a tie between Josh Phillips and Tessa - visions of pink bunniness! See photos below. They ran / walked in their outfits too! Josh's outfit is now one of our prizes at the 5K handicap on Thursday - 6pm. Shelly Beach.

Lindfield Fun Run 5K and 10K this Sunday April 1st. 2012

http://www.lindfieldrotaryfunrun.org.au/

A good time was had by all at the sunny Lindfield fun run I think. The results are up ontheir website. Juniors numbers were low this year - just seven of you: Gus, Kyle, Fraser, Hannah Gibson, Tessa, Beth and Leila. However, we had the Striders tent up near the finish, so that attracted all the senior Striders like a magnet giving us the lively group we've come to expect at this race There is lots of choccy mud cake left over, so you'll get a piece of that if you are at the mile handicap this evening - 6pm. for warm up at Narabeen track.

Here are some key rseults,(for parents of juniors too):

10K.

Hannah Gibson was 2nd lady in 41:08 and 1st in her age group, 2nd to Anna Fitzgerald, a senior Strider. Brilliant result!!!

Gus Wong 41:08 3rd in age group. He missed the start by a minute - those who know him will guess why.
Tony Wong 44:22

Fraser McKinlay 47:07
Fiona McKinlay 50:26

John Bowe (Leila's dad) 42:11

5K.

Caroline Yarnell 23:20 1st in agegroup

Tessa Constantine 23:37

Leila Bowe 25:47

Beth Murray 28:02

Kyle Wong (walker) 52:49

This race has become a bit of a tradition with Strider Juniors. Here we were in 2010.......

and in 2011.....
